Five Athletic Club stars sit out training ahead of Alavés | OneFootball

No fewer than five members of Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club squad were forced to sit out group training on Friday.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in the Basque Country.

Athletic, fresh off an impressive 2-0 downing of Fenerbahçe in midweek, today returned to work at the club’s training base, following a day of rest.

This comes with a view to an upcoming La Liga meeting with Deportivo Alavés, on Sunday evening.

Amid ongoing preparations for the trip to Mendizorroza, however, Ernesto Valverde and his staff were unable to call on five important members of Los Leones’ squad.

As per MD, the quintet in question come in the form of Iñaki and Nico Williams, Yeray Álvarez, Oihan Sancet, and Ander Herrera.

When it comes to their respective statuses for Sunday, the hope is that Iñaki and Sancet will be medically cleared, after being put through individualised training sessions on Friday.

Midfielder Herrera, on the other hand, has been all but ruled out, with Nico and Yeray considered serious doubts, too.
