Josh Windass opened the scoring for the Owls in the third minute of this fixture as he fired a free-kick past goalkeeper Luke Southwood.

Lee Gregory went close to adding a second as his effort hit the post whilst David Stockdale produced a good save to deny George Lloyd at the other end of the pitch.

Following the break, Barry Bannan doubled Wednesday’s advantage by producing a fantastic strike in the 83rd minute.

Dele-Bashiru made it 3-0 after being teed up by Bannan.

Currently third in the League One standings, the Owls will be looking to back up this latest triumph by securing all three points in their showdown with Cambridge United this weekend.

Reflecting on Wednesday’s victory over Cheltenham on Instagram, Dele-Bashiru has admitted that he was happy to contribute by scoring a goal in front of the club’s supporters.

The Verdict

Having produced an encouraging cameo display against Cheltenham, it will be interesting to see whether Dele-Bashiru will be able to force his way into Wednesday’s starting eleven for their upcoming league fixtures.

Whereas the 21-year-old will need to improve his consistency in order to become a key player for the Owls, he has demonstrated this season that he is capable of making a difference at this level.

As well as scoring three league goals for Wednesday, Dele-Bashiru has also registered a pass success rate of 87% in the third-tier (as per WhoScored).

With the Owls aiming to secure automatic promotion to the Championship, they will need all of their players to step up to the mark on a regular basis in the coming months.
