According to L’Équipe, an-all female on pitch trio has been selected to officiate Monaco’s trip to Troyes for Sunday’s Ligue 1 match. Stéphanie Frappart, now a regular on Ligue 1 pitches, will be assisted by Manuela Nicolosi and Élodie Coppola for the match between Troyes and Monaco on Sunday as part of their preparations for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
It will be the first female trio to referee a match in the top flight with all three officials having been selected to feature in the World Cup which begins in July 2023. Romain Delpech has been appointed as the fourth referee for this Ligue 1 fixture.
Frappart became the first female referee to officiate a match at the Men’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar, taking charge of Costa-Rica Germany in the group stage of the competition.
Frappart has been on the FIFA International Referee List since 2009. However, the World Cup Referee got her start in the lower divisions of French football. It is reported that she began officiating at age 13. As she rose through the ranks of French football she also became the first woman to referee in Ligue 2 and Ligue 1.
