First class Semenyo joins exclusive list

Bournemouth chalked up a welcome three points against Fulham last night to strengthen their chances of securing European football next season - but any late arrivals would have missed Antoine Semenyo's matchwinner!

The forward buried what turned out to be the deciding goal just 53 seconds into the contest to give Marco Silva's Fulham a mountain they weren't able to climb over the ensuing 89 minutes (plus stoppages!).

Flying out of the traps to hit your opponent cold is a great strategy if you can implement it, and Semenyo's goal saw him join an exclusive list of players to net inside the first minute of a Premier League match this season.

Although Semenyo by no means dragged his heels at the Vitality Stadium last night, a good number of his top tier peers have found the net faster this term - with Everton's Abdoulaye Doucouré the quickest of the lot.

At home to Leicester back in early February, the Toffees midfielder sashayed through the Foxes' still half-asleep defence to latch onto a Jordan Pickford punt and slam the ball into the bottom corner of the net...with just 10 seconds on the clock.

To put that Doucouré goal in context, his goal now ranks fourth in the Premier League's all-time list of fastest goals behind Shane Long (for Southampton v Watford after 7.69 seconds in 2018-19), Philip Billing (for Bournemouth v Arsenal after 9.11 seconds in 2022-23) and Ledley King (for Tottenham away at Bradford after 9.82 seconds in 2000-01).
