Liverpool will face off against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night as they hope to secure all three points and keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive for next season. The Reds managed to secure an impressive 2-0 victory over Southampton last weekend which will give them some confidence going into this upcoming clash at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jurgen Klopp will stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make some changes to his first-team for this game. Both Roberto Firmino and Curtis Jones will probably get the nod to start in this match at the expense of Diogo Jota and Rhys Williams.

Defence

Alisson Becker will operate in goal for the Reds after he kept a clean sheet versus the Saints in his last league outing. Fabinho will once again be asked to fill in as a centre-back alongside Nathaniel Phillips as they try to keep the Man United attackers at bay during the 90 minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will be a guaranteed starter at right-back and might be asked to carry most of the creative workload for his team. Andrew Robertson will continue to feature on the other side as the left-back. Klopp will give both of his full-backs the license to get forward and express themselves in the final third as the Reds cannot afford to drop any points at Old Trafford.

Rhys Williams will be available for selection on the bench as he offers cover for the centre-back positions.

Midfield

The Merseyside club’s midfield could be comprised of Curtis Jones, Georginio Wijnaldum and Thiago Alcantara as the talented trio look to dominate the ball at the centre of the park and feed some decent balls to their teammates up top.

Liverpool will be without the services of James Milner and Naby Keita for this game, so Klopp will be forced to play Jones and use Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s talents off the bench if needed.

Attack

Sadio Mane will once again function as the left-sided winger while Mohamed Salah looks to get his name on the scoresheet from the right. Roberto Firmino might get the responsibility to lead the charge for the Merseysiders down the middle.

Diogo Jota failed to find the back of the net last weekend, so he will have to settle for a place on the bench but could come on to influence the game in the latter stages if the Reds are in need of a goal by then.
