March’s original meeting between the sides had been postponed after Viola director Joe Barone was taken ill and later sadly passed away.

Andrea Belotti opened the scoring in the opening six minutes with a diving header to meet Gaetano Castrovilli’s cross from the left.

La Dea restored parity through Ademola Lookman’s dinked finish from Charles De Ketelaere’s weighted pass just five minutes later.

The visitors struck back with Nico González producing sublime volley after Cristiano Biraghi’s deep delivery into him at close range.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side again levelled later in the first half with Giorgio Scalvini drilling a low effort from the edge of the penalty area.

But Belotti nudged Fiorentina ahead again on the stroke of half time by pouncing to fire past Marco Carnesecchi after the ball broke for him.

The result had little bearing on either team’s standing with the Conference League finalists still in eighth place while Atalanta finished fourth.
