Fiorentina have condemned the behaviour of West Ham United fans during their heated Europa Conference League final clash yesterday.

La Viola captain Cristiano Biraghi was the victim of hooliganism. They hurled objects at the Italian left-back while he waited to take a corner kick.

He ended up with a cut on his head which medics had to attend to. West Ham players went over to their supporters to plead for calm.

Hammers captain Declan Rice went to his opposite number to apologise for the action.

Minutes before the Biraghi incident, West Ham fans were throwing objects at Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez.

There was also trouble before the game, with Fiorentina thugs attacking West Ham fans in Prague leading to multiple arrests.

Fiorentina released a statement which read: “Fiorentina strongly condemn what happened to their captain, Cristiano Biraghi, during the Conference League final between Fiorentina and West Ham last night.

“Biraghi was hit on the head by an object thrown from the stand housing West Ham fans in the 33rd minute of the first half while he was about to take a corner kick.

“This unacceptable behaviour obviously affected the performance of the footballer and his teammates, who had their attention drawn away from footballing matters by the threats to their own safety.

“The Viola captain, despite suffering a deep wound to his head requiring eight stitches, continued to play on.

“Biraghi displayed the values of fairness, integrity, and sportsmanship, which should be the benchmark for all football and that Fiorentina seek to champion with all their power.”
