De Boer still winless as Netherlands draw with Spain

After the hosts lost Nathan Aké to what appeared to be an early hamstring injury, it was Spain who struck first in Amsterdam when Sergio Canales netted his first international goal.

But the Dutch hit back right at the start of the second half when Owen Wijndal’s cross found Donny van de Beek at the back post, and the Manchester United man fired his side level.

1-1 was how it finished.


Finland use the Forss to stun France in Paris

The shock of the night took place in Paris, where Brentford striker Marcus Forss scored on his debut to give Finland a 28th-minute lead.

And three minutes later it was 2-0 when another debutant, Onni Valakari, fired home a beauty from 20-yards.

N’Golo Kanté went close to pulling a goal back late in the game but Les Bleus ultimately had no answer to an excellent Finnish performance.


Waldschmidt on target again in Germany win over Czech Republic

Benfica striker Luca Waldschmidt put Germany ahead after 13 minutes in Leipzig following an excellent pass from Philipp Max, who was making his senior international debut.

Florian Neuhaus went close to making it 2-0 in the second half but his volley rattled the crossbar.


Grifo proves it’s never too late to help Italy beat Estonia

Vincenzo Grifo scored his first Italy goal at the ripe age of 27 to open the scoring in Florence with a shot which went in off the post.

It was soon 2-0 thanks to a low drive into the bottom corner from Federico Bernadeschi.

Grifo then scored his second of the game from the penalty spot for 3-0.

And Riccardo Orsolini completed the rout for Roberto Mancini’s side when he also converted a penalty.


Neto nets debut goal as Portugal thrash Andorra

Portugal continued the theme of debut goals when 20-year-old Wolves winger Pedro Neto netted his first senior international goal to give the hosts the lead in Lisbon.

Then, in the 29th minute, Braga striker Paulinho also bagged his first Portugal goal to make it 2-0.

Lille’s Renato Sanches then made it 3-0 early in the second half after an assist from half-time substitute Cristiano Ronaldo.

And it was soon 4-0 courtesy of Paulinho’s second goal of the night, before an Andorra defender turned a Bernardo Silva cross into his own net for 5-0.

Ronaldo then headed home his 102nd international goal to make it 6-0, and João Félix made it 7-0 with a nice volleyed goal.


Batshuayi brace helps Belgium come from behind against Switzerland

Switzerland took the lead after 12 minutes in Leuven when Wolfsburg forward Admir Mehmedi controlled a long ball well before slamming home.

But four minutes into the second half, Michy Batshuayi equalised for Belgium.

And the Crystal Palace man soon bagged his second goal of the night and his 21st for Belgium in total to make it 2-1.
