Fikayo Tomori has admitted he was blown away by the reaction to Milan’s Scudetto success.

The unfancied Rossoneri held off the challenge of city rivals Inter to win their first Serie A title since 2011.

And their fans made the most of the achievement, with up to one million people thronging the streets to hail their new heroes.

“It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before – so many people,” Tomori told the Guardian.

“It was a three-, four-, five-kilometre drag but it took hours. To see everyone on the streets … I can’t really describe it.”

The title also vindicated Tomori’s decision to join Milan on a £25m deal last summer (after impressing on loan), leaving then Champions League winners Chelsea in the process.

And the 24-year-old centre-back believes exposure to the Italian perspective on defending has allowed him to improve his game.

“The way they are as defenders [in Italy] – I wouldn’t say it’s personal but it’s: ‘I need to make sure what I’m doing is on the money and no one’s getting past me.’

“They have that pride. There are little things the manager will tell me – make sure that you are blocking a run or that you are not allowing this to happen or making contact in the box.”

Tomori will be hoping England manager Gareth Southgate has been impressed enough by his development to give him some minutes during Saturday’s Uefa Nations League clash against Hungary.
