AC Milan, Davide Calabria and Ricky Massara have been fined by the FIGC for some violations during negotiations over the full-back’s renewal, it has been confirmed.

Calabria extended his contract with Milan back on July 9, signing a three-year extension taking the new deadline to 2025, but the Italian Football Federation have announced that some rules were breached as part of that and sanctions have to be handed down.

Below are the sanctions and the reasons for the disciplinary measure implemented by the FIGC, as reported by MilanLive:

“The investigation by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office concerned:

“DAVIDE CALABRIA , AC MILAN player, in violation of art. 4 paragraph 1 of the Sports Justice Code, in relation to art. 5.4 of the Agents Regulation in force until 4.12.2020, as well as art. 17, paragraphs 1 and 2, and 21, paragraph 18, of the FIGC Sport Agents Regulations currently in force, for having signed a representation mandate on 1.09.2020 in favour of Mr. Miguel Alfaro Garcia and allowing the latter to conduct negotiations for the renewal of the contract with AC Milan in the period September 2020-February 2021, without verifying that the same had filed the mandate with the Federal Commission for Sports Agents within twenty days and without verifying that the latter was duly registered in the National Register in the period 1.01.2021 / 22.03.2021 and therefore could not represent him;

“FREDERIC MASSARA , Sporting Director of AC MILAN, in violation of art. 4, paragraph 1, of the Sports Justice Code, in relation to art. 5.4 of the Agents Regulation in force until 4.12.2020, as well as art. 17, paragraphs 1 and 2, and 18, paragraph 3, of the FIGC Sport Agents Regulations currently in force, for having conducted negotiations in the period September 2020-February 2021 with Agent Miguel Alfaro Garcia, in relation to the contractual renewal of the player Mr. Davide Calabria, without verifying that Mr. Miguel Alfaro Garcia was authorised to represent the player. In fact, the Agent Miguel Alfaro Garcia, although registered in the National Register in the period 1.09.2020-31.12.2020, was no longer registered from 1.01.2021 to 22.03.2021 and also had not filed any mandate for the assistance of Calabria until at 4.05.2021;

“AC MILAN SPA, for strict liability, pursuant to art. 6, paragraph 2, of the Sports Justice Code, for the conduct challenged by Mr. Davide Calabria and Mr. Frederic Massara, respectively football player and Sports Director of the aforementioned club.

“Both the player and the club have decided to negotiate, finding an agreement for ‘the application of the fine of €7,500.00 (seven thousand and five hundred) for Mr. Davide CALABRIA, of €7,500.00 (seven thousand and five hundred) of a fine for Mr. Frederic MASSARA, and of € 7,500.00 (seven thousand and five hundred) for the club AC MILAN SPA.”

Therefore, we can deduce from the rather vague wording of the official statement above that there was some confusion and lack of communication over who the agent was that represents Calabria and whether they were in fact permitted to agree the renewal and sign the documents.
