The FIGC (Italian football federation) have denied that Napoli have contacted the Italian national team boss Roberto Mancini.

Corriere dello Sport today had reported that Aurelio de Laurentiis has contacted the ex-Inter boss and has had a telephonic conversation with the Azzurri boss over the Napoli managerial position, which will be vacant once Luciano Spalletti departs the club.

But FIGC have now confirmed that this is not true, saying that Mancini has never received any calls from Napoli about their managerial role. Their spokesperson informed ANSA recently:

“The coach of the Italian national team, Roberto Mancini, has not received calls from Aurelio De Laurentiis or his emissaries to go and occupy the Napoli bench.”

A host of names have been linked with Napoli in recent days, with De Laurentiis keen on making a decision about the manager before he leaves for the United States later this month. Vincenzo Italiano is said to be a leading candidate in this regard but Napoli are planning to approach the Fiorentina boss only after they have played their Conference League final against West Ham, as both culbs have an excellent relationship.

Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann were contacted but the responses were cold and talks with Thiago Motta have also stalled, with the Bologna boss said to have other things in mind.
