Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has been named as the Nerazzurri’s best performer in a 3-1 Serie A win over Lazio, a match in which his second half brace proved to be decisive.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, give the 25-year-old an 8/10 score in the player ratings for the match, and argue that his performance was a perfect impact substitution appearance.

Martinez did not start yesterday’s match, as coach Simone Inzaghi continued his policy of rotating the attacking players between league and cup matches.

Romelu Lukaku and Joaquin Correa led the line from the first minute, whilst Martinez and Edin Dzeko were reserved for later on in the match.

As it turned out, Inzaghi did need to turn to his bench, as he found his team trailing well into the second half, having dominated possession and goalscoring chances but not able to find the finishing touch, and conceding to a sucker punch following a Francesco Acerbi error in possession.

The coach threw on Martinez, and as it turned out the Argentine World Cup winner was just what the doctor ordered for the Nerazzurri.

Martinez looked energized, and only too happy to relentlessly run into the spaces made when Romelu Lukaku occupied the Biancocelesti defenders.

This was a timely injection of energy into Inter’s attack, and the 25-year-old also proved to have the clinical edge that was needed.

Martinez latched onto a Lukaku through-ball and finished past Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel to score a massive equalizer, instantly showing how devastating his chemistry with the Belgian can be.

Then, after Robin Gosens had put the Nerazzurri ahead, the Argentine never let up, pressing the Biancocelesti backline and continuing to look for opportunities to put the match to bed.

One eventually arrived in the form of a sloppy pass by Lazio midfielder Matias Vecino, and Matinez made no mistake to score Inter’s third.
