Sepp Blatter’s demise as the president of FIFA gripped the entire world, not just the world of football, with the Swiss man still banned from football for his involvement in fraudulent payments between himself and UEFA boss, Michel Platini who was also banned from the sport.
Such an interesting case that played out in the public eye has finally got the Netlfix treatment, with the major streaming service releasing a documentary about the corruption and scandals around the organisation and in particular, Blatter.
For UK and Ireland residents, the documentary will be available to stream from November 9, and looks like it will include interviews from Blatter himself which will surely make for fascinating viewing.
His payments to Platini came into question following the corruption case of 2015 which saw 14 people indicted in connection to an investigation by the American FBI, with the investigations looking at wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering.
When it came to the plea, 12 people pled guilty, whilst the same can be said Traffic Sports International and Traffic Sports USA.
At the time, seven current FIFA officials were arrested in a hotel bar in Zurich as they were making their way to the vote for the next president of the organisation, it’s unsurprising that this all brought an end to Blatter’s reign.
Awarding the World Cups for 2018 to Russia and the upcoming 2022 tournament to Qatar raised plenty of eyebrows at the time, with plenty of people suspicious about the validity of the bids, with Blatter branding the particularly vocal British press as bad losers following the awarding of the 2018 World Cup.
With the 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar, plenty of people have vocalised their concerns about the tournament being held in a place where homosexuality is barbarically illegal.
Although the concerns were raised, Blatter’s response to say ‘I would say they [gay fans] should refrain from any sexual activities’ rightly added fuel to the fire. The fact he could joke about such a serious issue says all you need to know.
One fans said: “OMG I AM SOOOO WATCHING THIS.”
Whilst another comment read: “Already put noti’s on.”
Another Twitter user claimed: “Sepp Blatter a lot to answer for.”
With someone else taking to the app to say: “Releasing it on 9th of Nov? 11 days before the World Cup, can’t wait for this one.”
