FIFA announced in a press conference this afternoon that they have dismissed France’s appeal over Antoine Griezmann’s disallowed goal against Tunisia.

Griezmann thought he scored a dramatic equaliser for France in the 98th minute. However, there was a VAR review for offside. The referee cancelled the goal.

This decision meant that France lost the final game of their group. The French Football Federation (FFF) filed the appeal immediately after the end of the game.

Following the incident, the FFF said (via Reuters): “We are writing a complaint following Antoine Griezmann’s goal, which we believe was wrongly disallowed. This complaint must be sent to FIFA within 24 hours after the end of the match.”

France boss Didier Deschamps and his side sealed qualification to the round of 16 after the first two games. He decided to rest his stars against Tunisia, making nine changes, but it backfired.

Wahbi Khazri scored for Tunisia, and they fought hard all game to defeat Les Bleus. Despite the result, France advanced to the round of 16 to face Poland.

They beat the Robert Lewandowski-led side 3-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals.

French star Kylian Mbappe played an incredible game and received the man-of-the-match award. The Paris Saint-Germain forward scored twice and assisted Olivier Giroud’s record-breaking goal.

France will face England on Saturday after the Three Lions beat Senegal 3-0 in their first knockout game.

France and England have faced each other 31 times. England won 17 while France won ten times. However, in more recent games, France have come out on top.

The winners of the game will play one of Morocco, Spain, Portugal or Switzerland in the semi-finals.
