FIFA lift transfer ban on Watford | OneFootball

FIFA have removed the temporary transfer ban imposed on Watford, per The Athletic.

The Championship club were banned after football’s world governing body placed them under an international transfer embargo on July 20.

The ban stemmed from an outstanding payment related to the transfer of Samuel Kalu from Bordeaux to Watford in January 2022.

The situation arose due to a claim made by the Megamu Football Academy in Nigeria, where Kalu had spent some time.

They insisted they were owed a solidarity payment and had not received it, prompting them to raise the matter with FIFA.

The Football Association (FA) was obliged to enforce restrictions on Watford’s registration of new players domestically as part of the sanctions.

Prompt action was taken by Watford, with the club addressing the administrative misunderstanding to ensure their transfer activities remained unaffected.

Reports suggest the amount owed to Megamu Football Academy was relatively small, and they have been paid, leading to the resolution of the dispute.

The official announcement from FIFA confirmed that all parties reached a satisfactory settlement, leading to the lifting of the ban.

This agreement is excellent news for the Hornets, as they can proceed with their transfer plans ahead of the upcoming season.

The situation had no visible impact on Kalu’s involvement with the squad, as the talented winger has already made 13 appearances for Watford since joining.

Watford have since registered the signing of former West Bromwich Albion and England midfielder Jake Livermore.

They also have an agreement with Gent for the loan transfer of Giorgi Chakvetadze.

With the transfer ban saga now concluded, Watford can set their sights on making signings for manager Valerien Ismael as they gear up for the new campaign.
