Bundesliga club FC Köln have been hit with a transfer ban by FIFA on Wednesday.

That is according to reports in Germany from BILD and Sky Sport, who claim the club will not be able to sign players for the next two windows.

“The defendant is prohibited from registering new players, be it at national or international level, for the next two complete and consecutive registration periods after the delivery of the present decision,” sources told BILD at the sentencing.

The reported ban arrives after the club signed centre-forward Jaka Cuber Potocnik one day after terminating his U17 contract with Olimpija Ljubljana. Therefore, Köln did not have to pay a fee as the player signed as a free transfer.

Even though the player has yet to break into the first team, the ban will reportedly apply across all levels at the club.

Köln have yet to comment on the reported decision, although it is expected that it will be appealed.
