FIFA: Daniel Sturridge finding out his pace stats with Raheem Sterling will always be funny

It’s a huge shame that Daniel Sturridge’s career has been blighted by injuries because he was a magnificent forward during his peak years.

The 32-year-old began his career with Manchester City before moving to Chelsea, but it was at Liverpool where he produced his best football and cemented his status as an elite striker.

Sturridge scored an impressive 35 goals in 49 games during his first season-and-a-half at Anfield and was part of a feared triumvirate also featuring Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling.

They came agonisingly close to winning the 2013-14 Premier League title together but fell short during the final weeks of the campaign.

And it was after this season that Sturridge began to struggle with various injury problems at Liverpool, resulting in him being limited to 160 appearances for the club between 2013-2019.

Sturridge has since played for Trabzonspor and currently plies his trade with Perth Glory in Australia.

But, sadly, his injury problems continue to haunt him during the latter stages of his career.

“I keep trying to bring him back and he keeps breaking down,” Glory coach Richard Garcia recently said, per The Guardian, after Sturridge lasted just 18 minutes after entering the fray as a second-half substitute.

Sturridge’s reaction to his FIFA 18 stats was priceless

With Sturridge in the news again, we thought we’d cast our minds back to one of our favourite moments involving the former Liverpool star.

Sturridge was superb on FIFA 17 with 81 for dribbling, 83 for shooting and 89 for pace.

But after scoring seven goals in 27 appearances during the 2016-17 campaign, EA Sports reduced his stats quite dramatically on FIFA 18.

It was his pace rating, in particular, that sparked a hilarious reaction from Sturridge and Sterling, who were equally baffled.

After being told his pace was now 79, Sturridge said: “79? Don’t disrespect my pace like that, bro, I’m minimum eighty…”

He then found out there’d been a mistake. His pace rating wasn’t 79 after all – it was actually 76.

A shocked Sterling said: “They’re basically saying he’s slow, then.”

Sturridge added: “I’m one of the fastest strikers in the Premier League.”

“If not *the* fastest,” Sterling added.

Sturridge then said: “Whoever put 76 down there… It’s a disrespect to my credibility, it’s a disrespect to my integrity, to my name.

“Whoever works at FIFA, they need firing. They need firing – seriously.”

Watch the brilliant clip here:

Even now, in 2022, Sturridge’s FIFA pace rating is 73. So perhaps 76 was a tad harsh from EA Sports back in 2017.
