According to a report by L’Équipe, FIFA is considering a system called Football Video Support (FVS) which would allow for a head coach to challenge the decision of a referee at least twice per game. The French outlet writes that FIFA hopes to gain permission from IFAB to continue trials for the system.

It was approved for a trial by IFAB this year for the U17s and U20s Women’s World Cups. However, FIFA must now present a report which will help decide whether the experiment can be extended. Multiple leagues are thought to be interested in hosting the experiment.

Piereluigi Colini, head of FIFA’s referees committee, explained “It is, however, essential to understand that the FVS is not the VAR. Due to the small number of cameras used, FVS will not be able to show what VAR can show.”
