FFF President is Confident That the Coupe de France ‘Will Take Place’ This Season | OneFootball

France’s biggest domestic cup competition is currently on hold this season. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the annual Coupe de France tournament is on pause and in possible danger of being scrapped altogether for this season only. The French Football Federation already decided to stop holding the Coupe de la Ligue competition, so clubs in France will be without domestic cup football this season if there will be no Coupe de France tournament.

However, FFF president Noel Le Graet is confident that there will be a Coupe de France tournament. As mentioned, the ongoing pandemic has played a major role in the decision to put the tournament on a temporary pause. But there is one conflicting dilemma regarding lower-level teams and how they are not being allowed to train before mid-January, which makes it difficult to hold the sixth through eight rounds of the tournament. Le Graet is still optimistic (via Le Parisien) on there being Coupe de France action this season.

“There are possible solutions,” Le Graet said. “For me, the Coupe de France will take place. Obviously, the longer we wait, the more complicated it becomes. But not impossible.

“We can hold out until January 30. Afterwards, if I say it too loudly, I will be asked to wait until then. I really believe that we can find solutions to adapt. We will manage to manage and find a formula. But I repeat, for me it is very clear: the Coupe de France will take place this year. It’s certain.”

French clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and others will simply have to wait for the FFF’s final decision on the tournament this season.
