Ben Chorley only arrived as sporting director of Ligue 2 side Valenciennes in June, but the former English defender already risks being monitored by the French Football Federation (FFF), according to Foot Mercato.
The report follows revelations in Foot Mercato last week. According to the French publication, Chorley, in his bid to sign Celtic centre-back Ismaila Soro (25), looked to take the player’s French agent, affiliated with the FFF, off the deal and replace him with an English intermediary. This is an illegal practice, and risks alerting the FFF, who may now proceed to launch an enquiry into Chorley’s methods.
It is therefore a difficult start to Chorley’s time as sporting director of Valenciennes. On the pitch, the club succumbed to a hefty 4-1 defeat at home to AJ Auxerre on the opening day of the Ligue 2 season.
The status of Soro’s move from Celtic to Valenciennes is unknown, but prior to Chorley’s attempts to insert a British intermediary into the deal, the transfer had looked set to be completed.
