The countdown to kick-off has begun. Inter will take on Feyenoord in the Champions League 2024/25 Round of 16. Inzaghi's side will play the first leg in The Netherlands on Tuesday 5 March at 18:45 CET, while the second leg will be played at San Siro on 11 March at 21:00 CET.

OPPOSITION: FEYENOORD

The side from Rotterdam, since Brian Prieske was relived of his duties, was temporarily coached by U21s Coach Pascal Bosschaart who guided the Dutch side to the Champions League Round of 16 after eliminating AC Milan in the play-off double header. Robin Van Persie has since been appointed and made his debut in the dugout on Saturday 1 March in a goalless draw with NEC in the Eredivisie. Van Persie began and ended his playing career with Feyenoord and fielded the 4-2-1-3 (4-2-3-1 off the ball) formation, rotating some players, though they have slipped to 4th in the table (on 44 points), overtaken by Utrecht. He used the midfield duo of Smal and Targhalline with Ivanusec behind the three forwards, Carranza in the centre up front and Paixao and Moussa on the wings. For the Eredivisie game, Moder and Milambo were out injured, together with unavailable Timber, Zerrouki, Stengs and Hwan. Against Inter, Givairo Read will definitely be out having been sent off against AC Milan.

THE TACTICAL SETUP OF THE DUTCH SIDE

Feyenoord tend to play in a 4-3-3, but they are a side who have shown that they're able to adapt to different situations of play. In the two games that they played against AC Milan, they focused on quick transitions and counter-attacks, using the dynamism of their wingers. Paixao was undoubtedly one of their most threatening players, as he was deployed on the left and scored the decisive goal in the early minutes of the game. At San Siro, Feyenoord lined ip with Wellenreuther in goal, a back four of Read, Beelen, Hancko and Smal. The midfield three was made up of Milambo, Moder and Bueno, while Redmond played up front supported by Moussa and Paixao on the wings. The all-important goal to seal qualification came from Carranza, who was subbed on in the second half. Feyenoord are a tactically adaptable and versatile side, who are capable of using their attacking options wisely, proving to be a difficult opponent for anybody. Paixao and Moussa are their top scorers this season with eight and seven goals respectively.
