While AC Milan were beating Girona 1-0 to get into the top eight of the Champions League, Santiago Gimenez was scoring a brace to beat Bayern Munich.
There has been a lot of talk about Gimenez joining Milan in the past 48 hours. For example, La Gazzetta dello Sport stated that the striker wants the move this month and his entourage are working to make the dream come true.
There has even been a verbal agreement reached over personal terms, which was described as ‘easy’ to achieve, but will be more complicated to convince Feyenoord to sell their striker in the current winter transfer window. Especially after a performance like last night.
After he lashed in the first goal of his brace in an eventual shock 3-0 win over Bayern, Gimenez ran over towards the Feyenoord fans and grabbed the club badge, pointing down as if to gesture “I’m staying”.
However, his comments after the game certainly seemed to leave things a bit more open. Speaking to Ziggo Sport at the end of the game, he put his fate in the hands of his faith.
“The only one who knows my future is God. I put everything in his hands. I have been in love with Feyenoord since the first day I have been here. I have always received a lot of support from the fans and I want to repay them with my goals,” he said (via MilanNews).
Furthermore, on Caliente TV, Gimenez added: “Going to Milan? We’ll see what happens, these are crucial weeks, I leave everything in God’s hands…”
