Supporters of Feyenoord are unlikely to be made welcome in Rome on April 20 when the Rotterdam club meets AS Roma in the Europa League, Voetbal International reports.

This follows a similar situation in September when Feyenoord played Lazio in the city, with the Ministry of the Interior now involved in the matter.

The decision comes in the wake of the 2015 match between Feyenoord and AS Roma, when Feyenoord fans caused damage to a Roman fountain.

Mayor Roberto Gualtieri had already raised the prospect of a ban on away fans when Feyenoord were drawn against Roma in the quarterfinals last month.

The Italian news agency ANSA has reported that the ban is now set to be imposed. This is due to Rome’s bid to host the world expo in 2030, with the city being inspected in the days after the AS Roma-Feyenoord match.

Fearing disturbances, Gualtieri has asked the ministry to ban ticket sales to Feyenoord fans. The city is hoping to avoid a repeat of the events in Naples earlier this month, when Eintracht Frankfurt supporters were not allowed to attend the Champions League match against Napoli, but still caused riots.
