Feyenoord director Sjaak Troost believes Robin van Persie and Dirk Kuyt will help them negotiate with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in future.

Former Liverpool u23 captain George Johnston completed a permanent move to Feyenoord earlier this month. Dirk Kuyt apparently played an important role in the deal, as Sjaak Troost explained to the Dutch media.

“I also asked him (Kuyt) to help me in this turbulent period. The fact that Dirk is calling Liverpool makes life a lot easier, because all doors are opening,” Troost revealed.

Now the Feyenoord boss is hoping Robin van Persie will provide a similar service for them, opening doors to Arsenal and Manchester United.

“Last week I had a cup of coffee with Robin. He also said: ‘Sjaak, if I can help you, whether it’s with Arsenal or Manchester United .. You name it, I would like to help you.’ I would be very stupid if I do not use these two large Feyenoord icons, so I will.”

I have to say that from an Arsenal point of view, I’m dubious about how much van Persie’s input would help. The striker may have spent a good eight years with the club, but he left on very bad terms.

The change in the behind-the-scenes team at Arsenal may mean that’s all forgotten at this stage, but then there’s no reason why the new head of football would have reason to listen to van Persie over anyone else.

Van Persie and technical director Edu did overlap at Arsenal by one year during their playing days, so perhaps that might provide Feyenoord with some kind of connection. They’d definitely have better luck with Manchester United though.
