Feyenoord are in danger of missing Igor Paixão from the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League. The 25-year-old Brazilian faces a race against time to be fit in time after sustaining an injury in training on Friday.
Paixão already missed Feyenoord’s friendly against Union Saint-Gilloise (1-1), but it seems he’ll be back soon. According to Voetbal International, though, it’s uncertain whether the left-winger will recover in time for the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League. That match is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5th or Wednesday, August 6th.
It’s a major setback for Robin van Persie, as Paixão is by far Feyenoord’s most dangerous offensive weapon. It’s no wonder he’s attracting interest from a large number of clubs. So far, however, only Olympique Marseille has officially approached De Kuip. The French club’s offer didn’t come close to what the Rotterdam side has in mind, VI emphasises .
Van Persie will welcome Luciano Valente, Jakub Moder, and Givairo Read to training on Monday. David Hancko is also back in the squad.
The training session was supposed to be open to the media and broadcast on Feyenoord One, but the club cancelled it at the last minute. The former striker wants to train tactically, possibly due to his disappointing performance against Union.
