According to 1908.NL, Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer is expected to be out for another eight weeks due to a thigh injury. The 24-year-old will miss the remainder of Feyenoord’s Eredivisie campaign and is now a doubt for Euro 2024. A huge blow for Ronald Koeman and the entire Netherlands national team.
Mats Mieffer sustained the thigh injury in training, before Feyenoord’s KNVB Cup final clash with NEC Nijmegen, which they went on to win 1-0. The midfielder has been a pivotal player for Arne Slot’s side, featuring 42 times across all competitions this season and playing a huge part in their title triumph last season.
On Sunday the 16th of June, the Dutch national team will kick off their European Championship campaign in Germany against Poland. Oranje will most likely have to make do without Mats Wieffer throughout the tournament, and his injury also damages the possibility of a move away from De Kuip this summer. Wieffer’s current contract in Rotterdam is valid until 2027.
