Fernando Quirarte has admitted he lives with regret following his decision to step down as manager of Chivas nine years ago.

The now 64-year-old resigned shortly after the start of the 2012 Clausara, with the Flock having lost all of their opening three games.

It brought the former Mexico international’s tenure to an abrupt end, having won just three of the 11 games he had been in charge for.

Speaking to TUDN, Quirarte revealed that his ego got the better of him.

“It is the first time that they ask me (about my departure from Chivas) and it even gives me a lot of feeling, because I was also to blame,” he said.

“It would be very easy to say that football has not given me that place, but it was my fault.”

“When I resign from Chivas it is a serious mistake that I make.

“It was because of ego, because I was not going to allow them to fire me at the time as they had done with so many coaches, so I said I’m going to go ahead and it was a very bad, very silly decision.”

The former Chivas defender, who made over 270 appearances for Los Rojiblancos between 1973 and 1987, has not managed another team since walking away from the Guadalajara outfit.
