Despite winning 1-0 in the first leg of the semi final series in the 2023 Liga MX Clausura semi finals, Club America fell drastically at home as goals from Ronaldo Cisneros, Alan Mozo and Jesus Orozco humiliated the Eagles.

“I am only going to say two, three little things. First, congratulations to Chivas, we must admit that the rival played better, congratulations for passing to the final. Second, for me and for my coaching staff it is a closed cycle with this institution. I wanted to tell you that, have a good night, have a good weekend and thank you for everything,” said Ortiz.

Ortiz first arrived ahead of the 2022 Clausura, managing to inspire Club America to the semifinals in the three consecutive tournaments before falling to different opponents. The team failed to defeat Pachuca, Toluca and this time, rivals Chivas de Guadalajara.

Though Ortiz managed record-breaking feats with the Eagles, including extending their winning streak in the 2022 Apertura, he crumbled in Liguilla to taint his legacy with the team.

He now departs with a record of 30W-9L-14D.

Club America revealed they will begin the search for a new head coach immediately. The team has a couple weeks before any competitive action takes place, as Leagues Cup kicks off on July 21 and the 2023 Apertura starts in August.
