Former Real Madrid and Getafe tactician Bernd Schuster has claimed that new Spain boss Fernando Hierro “is not a coach”.
Hierro was thrown on to the Roja bench on the eve of the World Cup after the Spanish Federation opted to sack Julen Lopetegui following his approach by Los Blancos.
And the German, who played for Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, as well as the Santiago Bernabèu outfit during the 1980s, has insisted that his old team mate is not the man to lead the nation to glory in Russia.
“There is one fundamental problem,” he told El Transistor. “Fernando Hierro is not a coach and has no experience in these circumstances.
“Being a coach is not the same as being a player. You have to make decision. You have to have a clear plan.
“He obviously arrived very late and that’s not his fault, but it looks to me as if making clear, precise decisions is difficult for him.”
Spain face hosts Russia in the last 16 on Sunday.
