Spain fail to keep a clean sheet

Scorers: Fati 13′, Gavi 56′, Williams 84′

This was Spain’s first ever match against Jordan, and started the match unbeaten against teams from Asia.

After a passage of flowing football from Spain, Ansu Fati received the ball unmarked on the left hand side of the box, and curled in a superb right-footed finish to put Spain ahead.

Jordan did well to keep the scoreline at 1-0 for the entire first half, but Spain doubled their lead soon after the break when Gavi slotted home from a Pablo Sarabia cross.

The rout was completed when Nico Williams netted with what may have been intended as a cross.

In the dying seconds, Jordan scored a shock consolation goal when Hamza Al-Dardour breached the Spanish defence.

Spain’s opening World Cup match is next Wednesday against Costa Rica.

Fernandes shines as Portugal rout Nigeria

Scorers: Fernandes 9′, 35′ (PEN), Ramos 82′, João Mário 84′

Portugal were off the mark when a neat pullback from Diego Dalot found his Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes, who was able to finish from inside the box.

Just fifteen minutes later, Fernandes had his brace when a penalty was awarded for handball from a Bernardo Silva cross, and he converted his penalty with a hop, a skip and a jump run-up.

Late on, Portugal broke quickly to allow debut man Gonçalo Ramos to add the third and João Mario added the icing on the cake from a sublime flick from Ramos.

Ireland go down to late Norway goal

Scorers: Browne 63′; Østigård 40′, Omoijuanfo 85′

Napoli man Leo Østigård broke the deadlock just before half-time, heading in from a corner delivered by Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard.

In the second half, Ireland fought back as Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne hit a fantastic shot from outside of the box straight into the back of the net.

Yet Norway had the final say as Ohi Omoijuanfo finished his chance from close range with five minutes remaining.

There was one positive moment for the home side though, as 18-year-old Evan Ferguson came off the bench to make his senior debut for Ireland.
