Bruno Fernandes insists Manchester United ‘kept calm’ as the Red Devils came from two goals down to beat Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s side endured a nightmare start as Nottingham Forest raced into a two-goal lead inside just four minutes, with Taiwo Awoyini and Willy Boly scoring to put the visitors ahead.

Christian Eriksen pulled a goal back for United after meeting Marcus Rashford’s free-kick, before Casemiro equalised early in the second period as the hosts piled on the pressure.

Forest were reduced to ten men when Joe Worrall was sent off for hauling down Fernandes on the edge of the box and United made their man advantage count to claim all three points.

Fernandes converted from the penalty spot after Rashford was fouled inside the area and the Portugal international admitted his side showed calm and character to seal their 3-2 comeback win.

“It wasn’t the perfect start for us but we kept control, kept the ball and started doing the right things,” Fernande said, as per the BBC.

“They defended well with a lot of players and it was difficult to get through, but we got the result and that’s the most important thing.

“I knew we had time to change the situation, but we kept calm. We started to keep the ball at the back and gain confidence, and after that the game was always on our side. We created a lot of shots in the first half. Overall, the performance was really good apart from those [first] four minutes.

“We know what it means to be a Manchester United player. We know this shirt demands a lot and we are ready for that. The team showed great spirit, passion and desire. We just need to be aware that we can’t concede so early.”
