Manchester United played hosts to Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford earlier tonight looking to get some revenge for the 2-1 defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture in Turkey. The Red Devils made a dream start to the contest as they took the lead in the seventh minute courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ goal. It was the Portuguese international who struck again just 12 minutes later to double his team’s advantage. Marcus Rashford killed the game off from the penalty spot in the 35th minute as the home side went into the half-time break with a commanding three-goal lead to show for their efforts.

The Turkish outfit got some pride back in the second half as Deniz Turuc scored a consolation goal in the 75th minute. However, Daniel James put the icing on the cake by scoring the Mancunian giants’ fourth goal of the night. The match finished 4-1 in favour of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men after the full-time whistle.

Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the match against Istanbul.

GK: David De Gea – 6/10

The Spaniard passed the ball relatively well and made some important saves to restrict the opposition from scoring more than once. However, he will be disappointed for conceding a poor goal in the second half.

RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10

The ex-Crystal Palace full-back was defensively solid as he pulled off a couple of crucial interceptions for his side. However, he struggled to influence the game in the opposition half and got subbed off close to the hour mark after picking up an injury.

CB: Victor Lindelof – 6/10

Lindelof had a quiet game in the first 45 minutes and was substituted at half-time because of an injury.

CB: Harry Maguire – 7/10

The English centre-half was a rock at the back and made some essential contributions in defence for his team. He did his best to stop the opposition from mounting an unlikely comeback in the second half and will be happy to get over the line with the three points intact.

LB: Alex Telles – 7/10

The Brazilian talent produced another encouraging performance at left-back. He played a crucial role in the lead-up to Man United’s first goal and was solid throughout the 90 minutes.

CM: Donny van de Beek – 6.5/10

The Dutch midfield ace engineered a couple of decent opportunities for his teammates to score. However, he will be disappointed for finishing the game without a goal or an assist to his name.

CM: Fred – 7/10

Fred produced another industrious display at the centre of the park and was not shy of getting stuck in with a few tackles.

RM: Marcus Rashford – 8/10

The English speedster was a constant menace for the opposition in the first half and got a well-deserved goal from the penalty spot. He got hooked in the 58th minute.

CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 9/10

The Portuguese playmaker made a brilliant start to the game as he scored two quick-fire goals within the first 19 minutes to give his side the ideal platform to go on and snatch a dominant win at home. He deserved to be named the man of the match.

LM: Anthony Martial – 7/10

Martial put in an impressive shift down the left flank as he caused all sorts of problems for Istanbul’s Rafael during his time on the field.

ST: Edinson Cavani – 7/10

The Uruguayan international did a lot of unselfish work and showed a few glimpses of what he is capable of without getting himself a goal or an assist.

Substitutes:

RB: Axel Tuanzebe – 6/10

He came on at half-time but got booked in the second 45 minutes which will keep him out of the next game versus Paris Saint-Germain.

RM: Mason Greenwood – 6/10

Greenwood was selfish at times but ended the game with an assist to his name.

CAM: Daniel James – 7/10

He came off the bench to score in injury-time, which should do his confidence a world of good.

LB: Brandon Williams – 6/10

The youngster got some valuable minutes under his belt after coming back from a long injury layoff.

CM: Nemanja Matic – N/A

The Serbian midfielder hardly had any time to make an impact.
