Barcelona secured qualification for the Spanish Super Cup next season after defeating Rayo Vallecano 3-0 on Sunday which earned them a second-place finish in La Liga.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Pedri (two) earned the victory for Xavi Hernandez’s men at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Having lost the title to Real Madrid, Barcelona had made it their top objective to finish second in the table and qualify for the Super Cup and accomplished their mission.

Fermin happy with win

Speaking after the game, young midfielder Fermin Lopez insisted that the Catalans were happy to have achieved their target, saying:

“We have achieved our objective and we are happy.”

Discussing the team’s performance against Rayo on the night, he added: “We played a good game, controlling and with chances. It’s a pity I didn’t score the one I had. Thanks to the fans and I hope we can give them a lot of joy next season.

“We hadn’t beaten Rayo for five games. They are a well-worked team, but we played a good game.”

On his own personal growth this season, Lopez remarked: “I’m very happy to fulfil my dream. I am very grateful to the coach and the club. I have learnt and improved a lot.”

Roberto admits outside noise affects players

Sergi Roberto also spoke to the media after the game and admitted that the outside noise does have an effect on the players despite their best attempts to shut it out.

“Everything affects, even if we try to isolate ourselves. It’s impossible. You get messages from friends,” the Barcelona captain remarked.

“In the stadium too, but we players have to focus on what’s happening on the pitch. The fewer problems there are outside, the better the players can work, but that’s it,” he added.
