In the eyes of a significant amount of football fans, Sir Alex Ferguson is the greatest manager in the sport’s history.
The Scotsman worked wonders at Aberdeen in the late 1970s and 1980s, before embarking on a legendary 27-year stint in charge of Manchester United.
What Ferguson produced in the north of England was nothing short of miraculous. He won 38 trophies during his time at Old Trafford, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
He also masterminded a treble-winning season in 1998/99, the only time that feat has ever been achieved by an English outfit.
United are now England’s most successful football team with 66 trophies compared to Liverpool‘s haul of 65 and that’s all thanks to Ferguson.
However, despite his unrivalled success at club level, there are some areas in which the 80-year-old is slightly inferior to other high-profile managers.
In terms of win percentage in Europe’s top five leagues, Ferguson only ranks as the eighth-best, behind the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
But who else is ahead of managerial GOAT?
Well, let’s take a look at the study conducted by PopFoot in which they’ve worked out the 20 managers with the best win percentage records…
20. Jurgen Klopp | 317 wins in 585 games | 54.2%
19. Julen Lopetegui | 61 wins in 11 games | 55.0%
18. Roberto Mancini | 237 wins in 429 games | 55.2%
17. Gennaro Gattuso | 68 wins in 123 games | 55.3%
16. Bruno Genesio | 93 wins in 167 games | 55.7%
15. Simone Inzaghi | 124 wins in 220 games | 56.4%
14. Fabio Capello | 301 wins in 534 games | 56.4%
13. Maurizio Sarri | 144 wins in 251 games | 57.4%

11. Frank Rijkaard | 112 wins in 190 games | 58.9%
10. Carlo Ancelotti | 479 wins in 803 games | 59.7%
9. Massimiliano Allegri | 255 wins in 425 games | 60.0%

3. Zinedine Zidane | 123 wins in 182 games | 67.6%
2. Antonio Conte | 180 wins in 262 games | 68.7%
Much of the reason Ferguson is further down the list is the sheer number of league games he managed in. His total of 1035 is over 200 more than anyone else on the 20-man list.
But those ahead of him have still worked wonders, Guardiola in particular. His win percentage of 76.2% over the course of of 470 games with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City almost beggars belief.
One day, the Spaniard may even usurp Ferguson in the greatest manager of all time debate…
