Fenerbahce are growing tired of Fiorentina’s insistence on €15 million for former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and will reportedly turn to Burnley’s Sander Berge.

The Moroccan spent last season on loan at Old Trafford from the Serie A side and he has made it clear he will not be staying with la Viola.

United harbour an interest in bringing Amrabat but he is clearly way down their list of midfield options as they refused to meet his rather modest option clause to sign him permanently earlier in the window.

This has meant Fenerbahce have entered the race and have made two bids of €10 million and €12 million for the 27 year old.

Nonetheless, Amrabat has remained steadfast that he prefers to wait for United and reports out of Italy suggest that he would still reject the Turkish Super Lig side even if they had a bid accepted by his current club.

TRT Sport (via Sports Digitale) report that “Fiorentina did not agree to make a discount for Sofyan Amrabat” and as a result “Fenerbahçe’s route turned to Sander Berge.”

Interestingly, “Berge was not included” in Burnley’s matchday squad to face Cadiz so a move could be on the horizon.

The news is significant for the Red Devils for two reasons.

The first is that United have recently been linked to Berge themselves, as it was relayed here that the Norwegian had been discussed as an option should a deal fail to materialise for Manuel Ugarte.

Coincidentally, ast night, the news broke through from the reliable The Athletic journalist David Ornstein that United had walked away from a deal for Ugarte due to Paris Saint-Germain’s inflated valuation of the defensive midfielder.

The second significant aspect of the news of Fenerbahce shifting their focus to Berge could also be positive for United in their pursuit of Amrabat as another rival disappearing from the race will only intensify the pressure on Fiorentina to accept a lower offer for the 2022 World Cup star towards the end of the window.

What’s more, with the Ugarte plan seemingly out of the window, the media is unsure on who the next target currently is with Martin Zubimendi, Youssouf Fofana, Adrien Rabiot and Amrabat all discussed as potential options.
