Fenerbahce have denied speculation that Hungarian defender Attila Szalai is close to a move to Chelsea.

The Turkish giants were left puzzled after reports in Turkey suggested that Chelsea were set to sign the centre-back for £20 million.

Such rumours were given credence recently by Hungary boss Marco Rossi.

The Blues are thinking about refreshing their defensive line, as the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, and Thiago Silva may all leave on free transfers at the end of the season.

"The allegations regarding the transfer of our player Attila Szalai, which have been made public in the last few days, based on foreign press and social media, do not reflect the truth," a Fenerbahce statement read.

"Our club has not made any transfer negotiations regarding our successful football player Attila Szalai. Our player continues his work completely concentrating on the goals of our team. We present it to the public."
