Felice Mazzu believes Charleroi need six points to guarantee safety

As reported by LDH, Charleroi head coach Felice Mazzu believes that his side just need to get six more points to guarantee their safety. The Zebras are currently in the bottom four but are level on points with OH Leuven who sit just above them. With four games left in the season, they are going to have to do better than they have been in their previous four. Of the 16 points they could have taken over the last few weeks, the side have only gathered four.

What will concern Charleroi fans will be that they dropped points against two sides in and around them during that run. After a 1-0 defeat to bottom club Kortrijk and a 0-0 draw with OH Leuven, the side now face just one side who can still realistically be sucked into the fight. Westerlo on 29 points are by no means safe, but they have improved under Rik De Mil and look set to remain a Pro League side next season.

Charleroi’s first game of the run in is against Genk on Friday night, a side who need a win to keep up their hunt to finish in the top six. The Zebras then face Westerlo away, Cercle Brugge at home and then Gent away on the final day. The latter two are both chasing a place in the top six alongside Genk so will be going into those games with something to play for.
