Carlo Ancelotti made a bet with Federico Valverde at the start of the 2022/23 season.

The terms were simple: if Valvarde didn't score 10 goals over the course of the campaign, Ancelotti would retire from management.

"We have a bet, I think he will score more than ten this season," he revealed in October, per Stadium Astro.

"He's a very important player for us. The energy he has is incredible. He has to score ten."

Valverde said shortly after: "I'm focused on doing it. It's a nice pressure. I don't want to be to blame for the coach retiring."

Fede Valverde wins bet with Carlo Ancelotti in Club World Cup final

Valverde had never scored more than three goals in a season for Real Madrid.

But he has been on fire in front of goal in 2022/23.

He had scored nine times this season going into Real's Club World Cup final against Al Hilal on Saturday.

And he managed to reach the landmark and win the bet in the 18th minute when his volleyed effort found the net.

Fede Valverde promised to celebrate with Ancelotti if he scored vs Al Hilal

In the days leading up to the match, Valverde promised to celebrate with Ancelotti if he won the bet in the Club World Cup final.

"When I score, I'm going to hug him," Valverde said.

And he fulfilled his promise as he ran straight to his manager.

Valverde went on to score again and reach 11 goals for the season as Real Madrid defeated Al Hilal to win the Club World Cup.

Vinicius Jr (2) and Karim Benzema were also on the scoresheet as Los Blancos won 5-3.

Real Madrid are next in action when they take on Elche in their La Liga clash at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
