The Blues are five points clear at the top of Group A and they will confirm their place in the last-eight with a victory over Real Madrid this week.
Ahead of the game, FAWSL Full-Time have reviewed the match facts provided by UEFA. Here are three points to note as Chelsea look to seal their qualification for the final knockout rounds.
Clean sheets galore
Both clubs have made a habit of keeping clean sheets in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Real Madrid have kept five clean sheets in seven European games this season while Chelsea have kept six clean sheets in their last seven UEFA Women’s Champions League matches – German club VfL Wolfsburg being the only European side to score against The Blues in more than 11 months.
Madrid is a tough place to go
Real Madrid are unbeaten at home in Europe in 2022/2023 (W3 D1). The Whites defeated Sturm Graz and Manchester City in Round 1 before beating Rosenborg on home soil in Round 2. Real Madrid drew their last home European tie 0-0 with Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea have a good recent record in Europe
Chelsea have lost only one of their last nine UEFA Women’s Champions League games, winning six. VfL Wolfsburg are the only team to have defeated Chelsea in Europe in the last one-and-a-half seasons, their victory coming against a Blues side which had been heavily hit by COVID-19. Chelsea’s defeat in Germany is their only loss since they were beaten by FC Barcelona in the 2020/2021 final in Gothenburg.
Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture against Real Madrid kicks-off at 8pm on Thursday evening.
