Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics and here are three match facts.

Lyon unbeaten against Arsenal

The two sides have met on five occasions in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Lyon have won four of those matches while the other ended in a draw, meaning that they are unbeaten against The Gunners.

It should be noted that Lyon and Arsenal have not met in more than a decade. The last fixture came back in April 2011 when Lyon were 3-2 winners at Meadow Park. The French club progressed to the UEFA Women’s Champions League final with a 5-2 victory on aggregate.

UWCL goal machines on opposite sides

Lyon’s Norwegian international forward Ada Hegerberg has scored 59 goals in 60 appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League throughout her career. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema has netted 26 goals in 27 outings in European football’s premier club competition.

It would have been wonderful to see two of Europe’s most talented attacking players on the same pitch on Wednesday but unfortunately, Hegerberg continues to nurse a leg injury and she will not be available for selection.

Van de Donk reunion

Lyon’s latest meeting with Arsenal sees midfielder Daniëlle van de Donk come up against her former club. The Dutch international spent six years with The Gunners before joining Lyon in summer 2021.

In her time with Arsenal, Van de Donk made 96 appearances for the club in all competitions in which she scored 28 goals. The midfielder won every domestic trophy with The Gunners but the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy was the one that got away.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture between Lyon and Arsenal kicks-off at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
