Arsenal will be hoping to qualify for a first UEFA Women’s Champions League final since 2007 when they take on German club VfL Wolfsburg in the second leg of their semi-final tie at the Emirates Stadium this evening.

The Gunners found themselves 2-0 down in the first leg at the Volkswagen Arena last weekend but goals from Rafaelle Souza and Stina Blackstenius brought the scores back level. With everything to play for in North London this evening, the second leg promises to be a thriller.

Ahead of the return tie, FAWSL Full-Time have been reviewing the match facts provided by UEFA. Here are three points to note about Arsenal’s fixture against VfL Wolfsburg.

Arsenal seeking first victory against VfL Wolfsburg

Arsenal have never beaten VfL Wolfsburg in five attempts (D2 L3). The Gunners are getting closer to recording that maiden victory over the Germans, they’ve drawn two of their last three matches against them. The two sides drew 1-1 last time they met at the Emirates Stadium in the quarter-finals of last season’s competition.

Pajor’s goal threat

VfL Wolfsburg forward Ewa Pajor is the top scorer in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League. The Polish international has netted eight goals, that’s three more than any other player. Pajor was on target in the first leg in Germany and stopping her from finding the back of the net again at the Emirates Stadium could be Arsenal’s biggest dilemma.

German clubs have found visits to North London tough

German sides have failed to win on four of their last five visits to Arsenal. VfL Wolfsburg were the last winners at Arsenal back in 2013. The She-Wolves won a semi-final, first leg tie 2-0 thanks to goals from Conny Pohlers and Martina Müller. Arsenal have since beaten both TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich at home and have drawn with VfL Wolfsburg.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final, second leg tie between Arsenal and VfL Wolfsburg kicks-off at 5.45pm this evening.
