Serie A will kick off tomorrow and there is a lot to look forward to. The league is known for signing a host of undervalued players and as we head into the new campaign, we look at five Italian top-flight arrivals who can silently make a mark.

Christian Ordonez – Parma

Parma have sold Simon Sohm to Fiorentina and the move was coming for weeks before it actually happened. This came after they lost Dennis Man and Ange-Yoan Bonny, as Cristian Chivu left for Inter.

As far as Sohm is concerned, Parma have roped in Christian Ordonez from Velez Sarsfield, where he was being looked at by multiple major clubs. He is likely to be a regular in Serie A this season onwards, with Sohm gone and with only €8.5m paid, Ordonez’s signing is unlikely to pose a major financial risk for Parma as the 20-year-old looks to showcase his ability to bombard forward and win the ball back.

Nicolo Bertola – Udinese

Bertola was being looked at by a host of clubs before he left Spezia and joined Udinese on a free transfer. The Friulians sold Jaka Bijol to Leeds United and the Italian comes in as a replacement, having impressed in Serie B and shown potential in brief appearances in Serie A.

Pretty highly-rated, Bertola can prove to be an upgrade on Bijol in the future as he also shows a better ability on the ball than the new Leeds signing. The former Italy U21s man is still 22 and has a lot to provide this season.

Nicolas Kuhn and Jesus Rodriguez – Como

Como are no strangers to making very interesting signings since they came to the Italian top-flight and they have done that again this summer. Having said that, Nicolas Kuhn’s arrival from Celtic is quite intriguing.

The versatile winger contributed to 22 goals in the Scottish Premiership last season and it was his best individual season on a personal level too. He comes into a stable attacking setup where someone like Jesus Rodriguez will also thrive.

The Spaniard scored only three times for Real Betis in all competitions last season but Como will hand him a platform to shine, especially in the long term.

Zakaria Aboukhlal – Torino

Goals were a problem for Torino last season and so was depth in attack. Zakaria Aboukhlal arrives from Toulouse after having proven himself well enough and consistently in Ligue 1 for the last three seasons.

At 25, he also boasts European experience and can operate across the front three. This will be key to Torino, who are not big spenders and rely on making the most out of low-key signings.

Aboukhlal is a proven first-division player and will be very important for Il Toro.

Jay Idzes – Sassuolo

Jay Idzes has been around the block for a while now but the move to Sassuolo comes at a time when he was expected to make a bigger jump and after he had impressed at Venezia for two seasons now.

He acquired solid Serie A experience last season and has previously shown an ability to operate in a higher line and in a deeper line. This will prove key for Sassuolo, who could find themselves in the drop zone at various points during the season.

Idzes has been there quite recently and he could have a leading role to play in the Neroverdi outfit.
