Sheffield Wednesday haven’t been in the Premier League for 25 years and don’t look like returning anytime soon.

The Owls have been covered in a cloud of negativity recently, with owner Dejphon Chansiri failing to pay people at the club on time for two of the last three paydays.

Danny Rohl has recently expressed his desire to return to the Bundesliga at the next given opportunity, which would leave Wednesday managerless and without any sort of leading figure throughout this tumultuous time.

The Hillsborough faithful will have returning to the Premier League as the least of their concerns right now and will just hope to see their club come out the other side of this damning period.

However, a team of the Owl’s stature shouldn’t have been away from the top-flight for 25 years. Football League World’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, believes the Steel City side have no hope of achieving promotion under Chansiri’s rule.

Sheffield Wednesday told to forget about the Premier League in their current state

Sheffield Wednesday have been out of the Premier League now for 25 years,” exclaimed Patrick. “There were opportunities before Dejphon Chansiri to return to the Premier League but there was mismanagement regarding players and more mistakes made on the pitch.

“In Chansiri's first two seasons, we were 90 minutes away from the Premier League in his first and got to a play-off semi-final the next. So, they are the two closest attempts we have had to return.

“But the situation in question now isn't that he is stopping a return to the Premier League. It's a case that the man has threatened the very future and existence of our club. So, we have to stop thinking, could he get us to the Premier League, and it has to be a case where he has to sell up and go.

“We can't be discussing the Premier League when players and non-playing staff are getting no wages, are going fully unpaid on several occasions and there is every opportunity that could be happening again in future months, as well as issues with tax bills.

“The management issue is unresolved, and I am very fearful for the new season and the very future of the club. Chansiri certainly has been one of the main reasons why we haven't returned to the Premier League and why since those first two seasons, we have drifted further and further away.

“Of course, it is a tough league to get out of and parachute payments have added a slight disadvantage to clubs who have never received them.

“But through sensible ownership and a proper structure, a path out of the Championship is possible, but that will never happen under Chansiri and that is down to his poor management of the club.”

Time is up for Chansiri at Sheffield Wednesday

The seriousness of the Owls’ current situation can’t be understated.

The Sheffield Star has reported that Wednesday have already been placed under a transfer embargo, and they have been charged by the EFL over a failure to pay wages on time at both the end of March and the end of May.

At this point, there seems no other way out of this situation than for Chansiri to sell up.

Two takeover bids have been rejected from a group led by John Flanagan and USA-based Wednesday fan Adam Shaw, with the club describing the bids as "derisory".

However, supporters of Sheffield Wednesday will hope a conclusion can be reached soon, before the situation begins to enter extremely uncomfortable circumstances.
