FC Utrecht sack Michael Silberbauer three games into the new season | OneFootball

FC Utrecht have announced the sacking of Michael Silberbauer just three games into the new campaign. The 42-year-old Danish head coach has seen his side lose their first three Eredivisie clashes, with Utrecht conceding five goals and failing to score a single goal within those games.

Silberbauer was appointed as Utrecht’s manager eight months ago. The former Utrecht player won eight, drew seven and lost seven of his 22 games in charge last season as the club finished in seventh place and narrowly missed out on Europa Conference League qualification. The club hopes to have a new successor soon having sacked Michael Silberbauer on Tuesday morning.

Utrecht have signed 14 new players this summer, including the likes of Mats Seuntjens, Zidane Iqbal, Ole Romeny and Ryan Flamingo, among others. Speaking about the decision to sack Michael Silberbauer so early on in the season, technical director Jordy Zuidam said, ‘The end of last season and the season start was not as we had hoped. During the season we regularly evaluate with the Head Coach, as we have done now. We concluded together that there was no upward trend in the development and growth of the team and linked to that the results lagged behind. The goal of playing with more energy and offensive intentions has been achieved too little. Those are difficult conversations, in which we have been open and honest with each other.’ Assistant coach Rob Penders will take charge until FC Utrecht appoint a new head coach.
