De Telegraaf are reporting that FC Twente had their eyes on a move for Wout Weghorst during the recent transfer window. The 31-year-old Dutch international is currently on loan at TSG Hoffenheim from Burnley. He has scored five goals in 15 Bundesliga games for the side. With Manfred Ugalde having left in January, FC Twente turned their attention to Weghorst.

In the past, the striker has indicated that he wants to play for his boyhood club Twente at some point in his career. With Ugalde leaving, the club now has a striker vacancy. However, he remains at Hoffenheim for the time being and will return to Burnley in the summer, where his contract is set to run until 2025. While Twente did enquire about bringing the striker in during the recent January window, it was deemed unfeasible for the Eredivisie side.

Weghorst joined Burnley back in the winter window of 2022 for around €17.5m. He has spent most of his spell at the club out on loan at the likes of Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim. In 20 games for the Lancashire side he scored two goals and provided three assists.
