There are numerous facts behind the club and below we want to share the most interesting ones to give you a clearer picture of the team.

Club’s Founding

Soon FC Inter Milan will celebrate its 113th birthday. It was founded on 9 March 1908 as a result of a split form AC Milan. Players had different opinions about whether to let non-Italians into the team or not.

Those who wanted to let foreigners play started FC Internazionale Milano. Peppino Prisco, the former Inter vice-president, used to say that the team was so great because it was founded on the principles of modesty and equality. The club is also known as La Beneamata, Il Biscione and Nerazzurri.

Nowadays, the team plays at San Siro, a football stadium in Milan. It is also known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after the World Cup winner who played both for AC Milan and Inter in the 1927-1942.

The stadium’s capacity is around 76000 which makes it the biggest ground in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.

Inter Have Never Been Relegated From The Serie A

You probably know that it is impossible to win all the time. However, Inter Milan is somewhat of an exception. Yes, the club has lost many games but they remain the only team that has always remained in the Serie A.

Just imagine how much devotion, work, and skills this requires. The team, including players and coaches, has to spend all their time on the field playing and planning their future games.

The FIFA World Cup Champions

The goal of any player and team is to participate in championships and win. To become the recognized champions and leave the contest with the cups.

In 2010, FC Inter has made it to the FIFA World Club Cup final and faced TP Mazembe, a club from Africa. The Italian team has won with a 3 – 0 score and became the 2010 FIFA World Cup champion. The scorers were Samuel Eto’o, Goran Pandev, and Jonathan Biabiany.

However, apart from the FIFA Club World Cup, Inter owns lots of other titles including 3 UEFA Cups/Europa League’s, 3 European Cup/Champions League’s, 7 Coppa Italia trophies and 18 Serie A titles or Scudetti.

Two Retired Shirt Numbers

You won’t find jerseys 3 and 4 at Inter because the club has retired them to honor two players: Giacinto Facchetti in 2006 and Javier Zanetti in 2014.

Giacinto Facchetti was an attacking defender and played more than 630 games at Inter, scoring a total of 75 goals.

Many fans consider him one of the best-attacking defenders of that time and he even obtained several important rewards. Facchetti spent his senior career solely at Inter, proving his dedication to the team.

The number 4 jersey belonged to Javier Zanetti who retired  in 2014. He holds the record for the most number of appearances both in the Serie A (618 games) and competitive matches (858 games) at the club.

The First Player To Win The FIFA World Best Footballer Of The Year Was From Inter

Lothar Matthaus, the football legend, was the first player to ever win this award back in 1991. His #10 jersey can be found in the San Siro museum, side-by-side with the jerseys of other FC Inter legends.

Matthaus has appeared in 115 games and scored 40 goals as a midfield player. The only other Inter player who has also won the FIFA World Best Footballer Of The Year reward is Ronaldo Nazario De Lima.
