FC Dallas Sign Free Agent Defender Omar Gonzalez | OneFootball

FC Dallas have signed free agent MLS veteran Omar Gonzalez ahead of the season. The 35 year old Gonzalez is a Dallas, Texas native who is returning home after 12 MLS seasons. Gonzalez is a CONCACAF Champions Cup winner, 3x MLS Cup Champion, 2x Supporters’ Shield winner, Liga MX Clausura Champion, 4x MLS Best XI defender, MLS Defender of the Year, and MLS Rookie of the Year. The former U.S. international defender also has 52 caps in his career while winning two Gold Cups. Gonzalez has a long club career racking up 457 games played for the likes of the LA Galaxy, CF Pachuca, Toronto FC, New England Revolution, and Atlas.

I don’t expect Gonzalez to be anything other than a spot starter for FC Dallas in 2024. Though Dallas doesn't have the strongest centerback core, Gonzalez isn’t the most reliable option to be a game in and out starter for any MLS club. With MLS clubs playing more games than ever and assuming Gonzalez is Dallas’s third centerback option, I do think we see a ton of him this upcoming season.
