FC Cincinnati close to signing Newcastle midfielder Scott ahead of next week’s MLS start | OneFootball

FC Cincinnati are close to signing Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott on a permanent deal, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed last month the MLS side were in talks to prise Scott, 23, from St James’ Park.

A United source has told Football Insider that FC Cincinnati have offered a contract to Scott, 23, and it is expected he will join during the now-open MLS window.

The US league’s primary transfer window, which opened on 10th March, has been extended this year until 1st June.

Cincinatti are keen to have a deal for Scott over the line ahead of the opening day of the season on 17th April.

Scott is out of contract at Newcastle at the end of the season.

The north-east giants have the option to extend that deal for a further 12 months but that is not likely to now happen as he closes in on a move across the Atlantic.

The MLS club’s manager Jaap Stam is a big fan of the Chelsea academy product and has been tracking him since he was in charge of Reading.

Scott has been unable to make an impact at Newcastle since joining in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer.

He was highly rated at Chelsea having won 3 FA Youth Cups but has yet to make his senior Magpies debut.

He has made 17 appearances for the Under-23s, mainly in central midfield roles.

Newcastle had pulled out all the stops to sign Scott, beating the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City to his signature.
