FC Bayern joins the whole world of sports in mourning Laura Dahlmeier. The former biathlete from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, was killed in a mountaineering accident in the high mountain range of Pakistan. Dahlmeier, a multiple Olympic and world champion, was 31 years old.

Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern president: “This news has deeply shocked us all. Laura Dahlmeier will be remembered by people not only as a worldwide biathlon icon, but above all as a personality who had an impact beyond sport, as a one-of-a-kind ambassador of the Free State of Bavaria: down-to-earth, home-loving, authentic – a popular and identifiable figure. The thoughts of the FC Bayern family are with the family and friends of Laura Dahlmeier.”

Just in May, Dahlmeier was a guest of the FCB women’s team at the FC Bayern Campus, where she spoke about her career and her life after professional sport as part of the club’s “EmpowerHer” mentoring programme. She leaves behind a lasting legacy. In her unique career, Dahlmeier won two gold medals and one bronze at the Olympics as well as seven gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals at World Championships.
