Reading forward Deanne Rose says that choosing to play in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League was a good decision for her personal development.

The 22-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist joined The Royals ahead of the new season following a four-year spell in the United States with the Florida Gators.

When speaking about her move, Rose said that playing in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League will help her flourish and she is already seeing some benefits in her development even at this early stage.

“Choosing to play in the FAWSL was a good decision for me as a player,” Rose told FAWSL Full-Time in a Canada Soccer press conference. “It is going to help me develop and I already see that in terms of technically and tactically, I see the potential.

“My coaches are really great, they are learning more about me and how they can get the best out of me and I think that will drive me to be the player that I want to be.

“Overall, in terms of becoming a better player and getting more minutes for the Canadian national team, I think that I am going to see an improvement.”

With Rose coming out of American college football and being very young, the player had options in the summer. She went on to say that she chose Reading because she wanted to go to a club where she could play regular football and have a positive impact on the team.

She said “I chose to go to Reading because I wanted to go to a team where I thought that I could make a big difference. I wanted to have an impact and influence the team, be able to play straight away and go somewhere where I knew I could get better and get the right level of experience playing against top teams.

“Reading was a good choice for me because I feel as though it ticked a lot of boxes in terms of what I was looking for from my first professional club.”

Rose will pull on a Canada jersey for the first time since the Olympic Games when Bev Priestman’s side play New Zealand in back-to-back international friendlies during the current international window. The games form part of the nation’s Olympic Gold ‘Celebration Tour’.
